Pool Renovation
Pools in the Algarve age differently to pools in northern Europe. The combination of intense UV, salt-laden air and year-round chemical exposure wears down surfaces that would last considerably longer in a cooler climate. Cracked tiles, chalky plaster finishes and corroded fittings are common on pools over ten years old.
We carry out full pool refurbishments: re-tiling, replastering, pipework replacement and filtration upgrades. Each job is assessed on site and scoped to the specific condition of the pool. The aim is to bring it back to the standard it was when first built, or better.
SQ Mosaic Tiles
SQ tiles are made entirely from recycled glass. The factory runs on its own photovoltaic installation and the packaging uses FSC-certified cardboard. That is not a marketing claim added for show: the company built the manufacturing process around sustainability from the start.
What makes them worth specifying for pool use in the Algarve is the colour range and how well the finish holds up. The light here is quite particular, and these tiles respond to it in a way that standard ceramic simply does not.

Automatic Pool Covers
A pool cover does three jobs at once. It holds heat in the water overnight, it cuts evaporation (a real concern through the Algarve summer) and it adds a physical barrier that keeps children and pets out of the water when the pool is unattended.
We supply and install DEL TIXIT submerged covers, which sit below the waterline and keep the pool looking clean and uncluttered. For pools where terrace excavation is not practical, we fit Moove'O above-ground models powered by solar. Each cover is custom-made and professionally fitted.
Pool Heat Pumps
PolyTropic have been manufacturing swimming pool heat pumps in Europe for over 20 years. They are now the continent's largest seller in the residential pool sector, and we chose them because the build quality and after-sales support are genuinely strong. The units use inverter technology, which means the compressor adjusts its output to what the pool actually needs at any given moment rather than cycling on and off at full power.
In the Algarve, a correctly sized heat pump will keep the water comfortable from early March well into November. That is a significant extension on what most pool owners expect when they first move here.
Advanced Water Treatment
Salt chlorination is straightforward: the unit generates chlorine from dissolved salt in the water. There is no need to buy, store or handle chemical chlorine, and the water itself is noticeably different. Most of our clients who switch to salt comment first on how much softer it feels. We supply Sugar Valley units, manufactured in Spain, and have installed enough of them now to be confident in their long-term reliability.
For properties requiring water quality beyond what standard chlorination provides, we install the Dryden Aqua system. This is an advanced, environmentally responsible treatment solution that produces water of drinking water quality. Pool owners who have made the switch consistently remark on how soft and clean the water feels.
INDYGO Water Level Control
The INDYGO system maintains the correct water level automatically, replenishing water lost through evaporation or backwashing. Readings and alerts are delivered to the owner's phone via the MyIndygo app. For owners who manage rental properties or are not resident year-round, this removes one more concern from the list.
Pool Filtration Systems
Filtration is one of those areas where getting the specification right matters more than the brand on the box. An undersized pump struggles to turn the water over fast enough. An oversized one wastes electricity and can actually damage the filter media. We spend time on the calculation because the difference between a well-matched system and a poorly matched one is visible in the water within a week.
We supply and install energy-efficient pumps and filtration units from trusted manufacturers, sized to each pool individually.
Child Safety Fences
Portugal does not currently require private pool owners to install fencing. A parliamentary proposal by APP, APSI and DECO has called for this to change (reported in The Portugal News, July 2023), but as of now the law is silent on the matter. Meanwhile, drowning remains one of the most common causes of accidental child death in the country, with the Algarve accounting for a disproportionate share of incidents (Portugal Resident, 2019).
We install removable net fence systems with self-closing, child-proof gates. They are straightforward to erect, store flat when not required and provide genuine protection for families with young children.

Year-Round Pool Maintenance
We provide regular swimming pool maintenance for private villa owners and rental property managers throughout central Algarve. Our service covers water chemistry testing, filter cleaning, equipment checks and chemical balancing, carried out on a weekly basis regardless of whether the property is occupied. A significant number of our clients are based overseas for part of the year and rely on a consistent, accountable service in their absence.

Our specialist kit pinpoints leaks in pipework, fittings and the pool structure itself, with a 99% success rate and no requirement to empty the pool.
